Background
In embryonic stem cells (ESCs), KLF4 has been demonstrated to be a good indicator of stem-like capacity. As a transcription factor, it can act both as activator and as repressor. KLF4 binds the 5'-CACCC-3' core sequence and regulates the expression of key transcription factors during embryonic development. It plays an important role in maintaining embryonic stem cells, and in preventing their differentiation. KLF4 also contributes to the down-regulation of p53/TP53 transcription.
