MBP (maltose binding protein)
Purification and Quality Control
The His-tag recombinant protein is purified by affinity chromatography in combination with FPLC columns.
The purified p55 subunit of TFIIA is greater than 95% homogeneous based on SDS-PAGE analysis.
Application
Recombinant MBP can be used for: 1) Control for MBP-fusion protein expression; 2) Control for His-tagged protein expression; and 3) ELISA or western-blot quantities of target fusion protein. For Research Use Only.
Formulation and Storage
The protein is in 20mM Tris-HCl pH7.9,100mM NaCl, 0.2mM EDTA, 1mM DTT and 20% glycerol. Stored at -70°C before use. Avoid repeated freeze thaw cycles.
Synonym
Maltose binding protein.

Background
MBP (maltose binding protein) is wildly used to increase the solubility of recombinant proteins expressed in E. coli. When a protein of interest is expressed as a MBP-fusion protein its solubility is often enhanced. MBP itself also serves as an affinity tag to accelerate purification of recombinant proteins. The fusion protein binds to amylose
columns while all other proteins flow through.
